How To-Painting

How to Paint Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Player, Mitch Marner

IMG_0729.jpg

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • One very fine tipped paint brush
  • Artist’s Pigment 484 Brilliant Ultramarine acrylic paint pot (blue)
  • Number 1 acrylic paint pot (white)
  • Number 10 acrylic paint pot (black)
  • Number 28 acrylic paint pot (light brown)
  • Number 39 acrylic paint pot (light blue)
  • Pallet to mix colors (I just use a honey bucket top)
  • Small bowl of water
  • Paper Towel

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Right click anywhere on the screen and print out this page. This will give you an idea of the size of the picture, and if you have a color printer you can follow the picture as a color guide.

2. Using the picture as a guide, draw the outline of the hockey player. You can draw it the size of the picture, or you can draw the whole person in a larger scale. Mine was larger, but I just cropped my picture for better detail.

3. Once you have drawn it, you can get to painting it. Making sure the paint lids are tightly closed, gently shake them to mix all the paint.

4. Take your brush and dip it into the blue paint pot. Then start painting from the top of the helmet down. Do the same with the other colors. Of course you can use any color scheme you want. When you come to the face, mix together some light brown and white on your pallet until you get the desired face color (it will take a lot of white). For the ice, you can just mix light blue and white. Continue painting until the picture is finished.

5. Remember to always rinse the dry paint brush in the bowl of water and then dry it in the paper towel. Do the same when switching to a different color. Don’t let the paint dry on the brush. Once you are done, you can admire the painting. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look as good as you hoped. You can only become a good artist if you practice!

Tips on Doing a Paint by Number Project

IMG_0750.jpg

The painting shown above is a Royal & Langnickel Painting by Numbers project that I just finished for Christmas 2019. You should be able to find a paint by number at a craft store. One tip would be to make sure you look at the original art and compare it to what you have painted, and try to get your prescribed paint mix to look as close to the original as you can. Another thing is that you want to blend the space between to different colors on your painting so that the colors don’t have much of a contrast. Have fun with the painting!

How to Paint an X Wing Fighter

IMG_0787.jpg

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • One very fine tipped paint brush
  • Folk Art®, Artist’s Pigment 484 Brilliant Ultramarine acrylic paint pot (blue)
  • Number 1 acrylic paint pot (white)
  • Number 10 acrylic paint pot (black)
  • Number 3 acrylic paint pot (yellow)
  • Number 45 acrylic paint pot (light grey)
  • Number 7 acrylic paint pot (bright green)
  • Delta Ceramcoat® Acrylic Paint (bright red)
  • Pallet to mix colors
  • Small bowl of water
  • Paper Towel

INSTRUCTIONS

1.  Take the X Wing drawing you had done in the How To-Drawing page and paint the white parts of the fighter.

2.  Then mix the blue paint with the white paint on your pallet to make light blue. After that, paint light blue on the fuselage and wings. Or if you already have light blue paint, you don’t have to mix it with white.

3.  Paint the grey on the cockpit and wings, and paint the black shown in the picture. Remember to always dip your brush in water and blot it on the paper towel whenever you switch to a new color. You can also paint R2D2 with the blue and white, and put a red dot on the front.

4.  When you are done painting the fighter, mix the red paint with white to make the afterburner color behind the fighter’s engine. Note: the Millennium Falcon in the bottom left was not in the original drawing picture. When I went to paint the space background and I saw that it would take to long, I turned what I had started painting into the Millennium Falcon! You can chose if you want to add it or not, but I just painted it dark grey.

5.  If you have drawn the Star Wars font, you mix yellow with white on your pallet to get light yellow. Paint the light yellow on the outside and black on the inside. Finally paint bright green and red stripes for light bolts, and your picture is done!
